Ahhh spring. It’s such a wonderful time of year. Here in Texas that means sunny days, warmer temperatures, and of course – bluebonnets! Spring can also bring drastic changes in temperature and more exposure to the sun which can wreak havoc on sensitive skin. Aggravating breakouts and irritations caused by dryness can take the spring (get it?) right out of your step. 😊

So if you’re looking to prep your skin for the spring, we’ve got the steps you need to take to turn your dry wintry skin into healthy-looking spring radiance.

    1. Hydrate your Body

A good natural moisturizer is a MUST. That being said...so many people, myself included, forget how important whole body hydration is to the skin. Not drinking enough water coupled with increased sweating that occurs in warmer weather can cause dehydration. If your skin is dehydrated, you may notice dullness, itchiness, under-eye circles, and more noticeable fine lines and wrinkles. So drink up!

    2. Exfoliate

Exfoliation is essential when you’re trying to achieve #skingoals. Your moisturizer will penetrate deeper into your skin after you’ve removed dead skin cells so using a gentle mask that targets dryness (like coconut milk) will help your skin look more radiant.

      3. Wear Sunscreen

I don’t want to sound too momish but I need to say it: you should wear sunscreen everyday of the year, not just when you're at the lake or mowing the lawn. It does more than keep you from getting sunburned. Skipping sunscreen can weaken your skins natural barrier which can dilute the natural oils in your skin. A depletion in natural oil makes your skin feel even drier than before. Choose a sunscreen suited for your skin type that is at least SPF 30.

        4. Say YES to Oil

Say what??? I know it sounds crazy to put oil to your face, but it really is my secret weapon against dryness. You have to use the right kind, though. Look for serums or facial oils with high levels of vitamin C and omega acids which are particularly effective in restoring your skin’s brightness and moisture. After cleansing and moisturizing at night, finish your routine with a light layer of facial oil to wake up with hydrated, plump skin.

Hopefully these quick and painless tips will help your skin look and feel its best this spring. Do you have a favorite spring time skin treatment? Let us in on your secret in the comments below.
